Bending Machine Tonnage Selection Guide

2024-12-07 06:12:55

Tonnage refers to the maximum pressure a bending machine can apply. This pressure determines the maximum material thickness and material strength the machine can handle. The higher the tonnage, the stronger the bending capacity of the machine, allowing it to bend thicker materials. Different tonnages are suitable for different material thicknesses and hardness levels.

How to Calculate the Required Tonnage for a Bending Machine

When calculating the required tonnage for a bending machine, several factors should be considered:

  • Material Type (different materials have different strengths, so the required pressure will vary)
  • Material Thickness (the thicker the material, the more force is required for bending)
  • Material Width (the wider the material, the more pressure is needed)

A rough estimation formula for the required tonnage is:

Example:
If you need to bend 6mm thick steel with a width of 1500mm and the material has a tensile strength of 400N/mm², the required tonnage would be:

However, this is just an estimate, and the actual tonnage will also depend on factors such as the machine’s work efficiency and safety factors.

Applications of Different Tonnage Bending Machines

  • 30 Ton Bending Machine:
Suitable Materials: Thin sheets, typically suitable for materials ≤2mm in thickness such as stainless steel, aluminum, copper, etc.
Application: This tonnage is commonly used in small processing workshops, laboratories, or for small batch production.

  • 50-100 Ton Bending Machine:
Suitable Materials: Suitable for materials with thicknesses between 2-6mm, such as steel or aluminum.
Application: Commonly used in industries like home appliances, automotive parts, and office equipment. Suitable for small to medium-sized factories capable of handling a wide variety of materials.

  • 150-200 Ton Bending Machine:
Suitable Materials: Suitable for materials with a thickness of 6-10mm, such as steel plates and stainless steel plates.
Application: Used in steel structure manufacturing, construction, heavy machinery industries, and most industrial applications.

  • 300 Ton and Above Bending Machines:
Suitable Materials: Used for materials thicker than 10mm, or high-strength alloys.
Application: Suitable for heavy industries such as shipbuilding, aerospace, and steel metallurgy that require high bending force.

Considerations When Selecting Tonnage

  • Material Thickness: Thicker materials require higher tonnage. For example, a 6mm steel plate may need 100 tons, but for a 12mm steel plate, you might need 250 tons or more.
  • Material Type: Different materials have different yield strengths and hardness levels, requiring different tonnages. For example, stainless steel requires more tonnage to bend than mild carbon steel.
  • Process Requirements: Higher tonnage bending machines often provide more precise bending, so for applications requiring high precision, a higher tonnage bending machine is typically chosen.
